Last Light on the Madison Range — Montana Autumn
The Madison
The storm had been building over the Madison Range all afternoon, and then, in the last twenty minutes of daylight, it relented just enough to let the sun through. One shaft of warm light caught the face of the range — illuminating the ochre and rust of the high alpine slopes in tones that matched the autumn willows blazing along the river below — and Jess Lee, already positioned on the bank with the Madison running fast and cold in the foreground, made the image.
Look carefully at the lower right. There is an angler there, thigh-deep in the current, rod in hand, entirely absorbed in the river. He has no idea what is happening behind him — the mountain face lit like a lantern, the clouds massed and purple above, the willows burning gold on both banks. He is fishing. The mountain is putting on the greatest show of the season and he is fishing. This is, Jess Lee would argue, entirely correct behavior.
The Madison Valley between Yellowstone and Ennis is one of the great landscape corridors of the American West — a broad, ranching valley flanked by the Madison Range to the east and the Gravelly Range to the west, the river running through the middle of it in a series of braided channels and productive riffles that have made it a pilgrimage destination for fly fishers for over a century. In autumn, when the willow and cottonwood turn and the first snow touches the high peaks, the valley achieves a beauty that is almost unreasonable in its generosity.

Certificate of Authenticity (COA): A formal Certificate of Authenticity is provided with every purchase. This document details the artwork title, total edition size, medium, and the specific number of your print (e.g., 5/100).
Provenance: This documentation verifies the print's origin and is essential for future appraisal or resale.
Q: What is the typical edition size for your work?
A: Edition sizes vary by image and reflect how repeatable the subject is. Most fall between 100 and 200; some are 50; a few are larger. Every image page states its own edition, and that number is fixed permanently the day it is published.
3. Ordering, Shipping, and Customer Service
Q: How long will it take to receive my print?
A: Since each limited-edition print is custom-crafted to your material and size specifications, production requires careful attention.
Production Time: Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for printing, finishing and quality control. Custom orders and the holiday season may run longer. Rush production is available at a 20-30% premium — contact me if you have a date to meet.
Shipping: Shipping times vary by destination, but tracking information is provided as soon as your artwork ships.
Q: How are the prints shipped, and are they insured?
A: All shipments are handled by professional art carriers and are fully insured against damage during transit.
Packaging: Prints are securely packaged in durable, custom-built crates or specialized art boxes designed to prevent damage.
Damage Policy: If your artwork arrives damaged, please contact me within 48 hours of delivery with photographic proof. I will immediately initiate an insurance claim and arrange for a prompt replacement at no cost to you.
Q: What is your return policy?
A: Due to the custom-made, limited-edition nature of the artwork, all sales are final once production has begun.
Once production has begun, changes cannot be made to the size, print medium, or image selection. Because production starts immediately and materials are custom-ordered for your specific piece, modifications are not possible after order confirmation.
