Upstream — West Fork Branch Madison River in Autumn

Montana

The same stream. The same morning. The camera turned.

Jess Lee made this image moments after The Quiet Confluence — same position near the West Fork of the Madison, same soft rain-washed light, same amber and gold corridor of autumn willow and alder lining both banks. But vertical format changes everything. Where the horizontal image spread the landscape wide and held the tributary in its valley context, this one narrows the world to the stream itself — the gravel bed visible through clear water, the banks pressing in close on both sides, the three dark firs rising in the left foreground, and the mist-softened hill at the end of the corridor drawing the eye upstream into whatever lies around the next bend.

It is a more intimate image, and a more insistent one. The vertical composition creates a sense of passage — of being in the stream corridor rather than above it, of following the water rather than observing it. For the fly fisher, this is the view that matters: looking upstream, reading the water, the current moving toward you while your attention moves against it. There is a riffle just visible in the upper middle distance. There is, almost certainly, a fish holding below it.

Among the Montana river images in this collection, Upstream occupies its own quiet register — neither the grand landscape scale of the Paradise Valley series nor the dramatic storm light of Three Dollar Bridge, but something more personal: a single reach of a small tributary stream on an overcast October morning, rendered in the colors of a season at its most generous.

Upstream is available as a limited-edition fine art print in Lumachrome HD TruLife Acrylic, ChromaLuxe Metal, and Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper. The vertical format makes this image an exceptional choice for narrow wall spaces, stairwells, and flanking installations — and displayed as a diptych alongside The Quiet Confluence — Madison River Near the West Fork, the two prints present the same location in horizontal and vertical format, a rare opportunity to hang the same moment twice and have it mean something different each time. Fine Art Print Purchase FAQ

This section answers the most common questions from collectors regarding quality, authenticity, materials, and ordering logistics for my limited-edition prints.

1. Quality, Materials, and Archival Longevity

Q: What makes Jess Lee's prints "museum-quality"?

A: My fine art prints are defined by exceptional resolution, professional craftsmanship, and the use of the industry's highest-grade archival materials. This ensures the image quality remains pristine for decades, meeting the standards required for gallery exhibitions and long-term private collections.

Q: What specific materials and printing processes are used?

A: I create prints using processes that guarantee maximum clarity and longevity:

  • Substrates: Available materials include Lumachrome® HD AcrylicExhibition Mounted Metal, and premium Archival Pigment Prints on fine art cotton-rag papers (often referred to as Giclée).
  • Inks: Only fade-resistant, archival pigmented inks are used, offering a wider color gamut and superior durability compared to standard dye-based prints.
  • Resolution: Prints are created from genuine, very large, high-resolution digital files, ensuring sharp detail and clarity even in the largest formats (60" to 120" or more).

2. Investment, Authenticity, and Exclusivity

Q: Why should I purchase a limited-edition print?

A: Limited editions are a hallmark of collectible art. By restricting the total number of copies produced for a specific image, the scarcity is guaranteed, which generally supports the artwork's collectible value and long-term investment potential. Once an edition is sold out, it is never reprinted.

Q: How is the print authenticated and numbered?

A: Every limited-edition fine art print is meticulously authenticated:

  • Signature: Each print is hand-signed and numbered by Jess Lee.
  • Certificate of Authenticity (COA): A formal Certificate of Authenticity is provided with every purchase. This document details the artwork title, total edition size, medium, and the specific number of your print (e.g., 5/100).
  • Provenance: This documentation verifies the print's origin and is essential for future appraisal or resale.

Q: What is the typical edition size for your work?

A: Edition sizes vary based on the image's format and style but are generally small to preserve exclusivity. Prints are often split across sizes (e.g., 50 copies total across all offered sizes). Check the individual print page for the exact, guaranteed edition limit.

3. Ordering, Shipping, and Customer Service

Q: How long will it take to receive my print?

A: Since each limited-edition print is custom-crafted to your material and size specifications, production requires careful attention.

  • Production Time: Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for printing, finishing, quality control, and artist signing. Custom orders can take longer. Rush orders are available Contact
  • Shipping: Shipping times vary by destination, but tracking information is provided as soon as your artwork ships.

Q: How are the prints shipped, and are they insured?

A: All shipments are handled by professional art carriers and are fully insured against damage during transit.

  • Packaging: Prints are securely packaged in durable, custom-built crates or specialized art boxes designed to prevent damage.
  • Damage Policy: If your artwork arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photographic proof. We will immediately initiate an insurance claim and arrange for a prompt replacement at no cost to you.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Due to the custom-made, limited-edition nature of the artwork, all sales are final once production has begun. We do not accept returns for buyer's remorse. We only offer replacements or credit if the product is damaged during shipping (see Damage Policy above). If you need a size that is not shown or a larger size, please contact Jess for options.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for production and delivery.

U.S. orders ship FREE, crating prints larger than 24x36, and framed prints may have an additional charge. Contact Jess for international shipping fee. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for production and delivery.
