The Four Rivers Collection | Fly Fishing Henry's Fork, Madison, Teton, and the South Fork

The Four Rivers: A Legacy in Water and Light

There are places in the American West where geography ceases to be merely topography and becomes legend. For anyone who has ever cast a line into running water or watched evening light dance across a riffle, the waters threading through eastern Idaho, southwestern Montana, and the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem hold sacred status.

Earlier this season, I was honored to undertake a special milestone commission for Mark Rockefeller: a five-day photographic journey across four iconic rivers that define not just a legendary region, but the heart of modern fly fishing heritage. The goal was ambitious yet pure—to capture the untamed character, subtle moods, and storied lifestyle of these historic waters using classic scenic compositions paired with heritage fly-fishing gear.

The Four Rivers Featured in the Collection

  • The Henry’s Fork of the Snake River — Renowned for its glass-smooth flats, legendary hatches, and discerning wild trout, set against the backdrop of Last Chance and the Island Park caldera.
  • The South Fork of the Snake River — Famous for sweeping canyon walls, cottonwood-lined braided channels, and aggressive native Yellowstone cutthroat trout.
  • The Madison River — The classic fifty-mile riffle, sweeping through Montana’s high-country valley with steady runs, rolling pocket water, and big-sky horizons.
  • The Teton River — The peaceful gem winding through the Teton Basin beneath dramatic jagged peaks, offering serene oxbows and secluded, spring-fed character.

A Storied Home on the Henry's Fork

To step into this project is to step squarely into the living history of the sport. At the very center of this tradition stands Henry’s Fork Angler.

Founded by legendary fly fishers and conservation icons Mike Lawson and René Harrop, the shop began as more than a premier outfitter; it became an international beacon for anglers seeking technical water, wild trout, and honest fellowship. Over decades, Mike alongside his wife Sheralee poured their lives, passion, and encyclopedic knowledge into building Henry’s Fork Angler into one of the most respected institutions in fly fishing culture.

When stewardship of the shop passed to Mark Rockefeller, the foundation remained unbroken. With Mike and Sheralee continuing to guide and manage operations, that profound respect for water, craft, and camaraderie endures intact. Mark's deep dedication to honoring the shop’s history while safeguarding its future has kept Henry's Fork Angler the premier gathering place along the river.

The Collection & Fine Art Prints

Having my fine art photography welcomed into this esteemed lineage is one of the true highlights of my career. Being entrusted by Mark to interpret these four rivers through my lens—and knowing how deeply woven they are into the fabric of the fly-fishing lifestyle—has been a deeply rewarding endeavor.

Following the success of our fieldwork, a curated selection of limited-edition fine art prints from the Four Rivers Project is now available directly through Henry’s Fork Angler in Last Chance, Idaho, as well as featured in the online gallery below. Each print is produced as an authentic, archival collector's piece celebrating the light and water that keep anglers returning season after season.
