Custom Picture Framing & Museum Presentation Guide

Bespoke Hand-Crafted Roma® Italian Mouldings, Lumachrome® TruLife® Acrylic, and Archival Float Frames

A master fine art photograph is only complete when its presentation matches the caliber of its capture. Just as fifty years of field patience and 100-megapixel medium-format fidelity define the image, the frame provides its physical architecture—anchoring the work within your interior, controlling ambient reflection, and preserving archival integrity for generations.

Every frame offered in this studio is custom-built to order using sustainable hardwoods and genuine Italian mouldings by Roma Moulding®, hand-crafted in Italy by master artisans. Whether you are seeking a floating Lumachrome® acrylic presentation for a contemporary mountain estate or a classic hand-wrapped linen liner paired with museum cotton rag for a traditional library, each piece is engineered for seamless aesthetic harmony.

Our Signature Presentation Styles

1. Recessed Float Frames (Roma® Ramino & Tabernaculo Series)

Best paired with: Lumachrome® HD TruLife® Acrylic & ChromaLuxe® Metal

Our most sought-after presentation for modern mountain lodges, luxury ranches, and contemporary residences. The acrylic or metal masterwork is suspended inside a deep, hand-finished Italian wooden shadowbox moulding, leaving a subtle 1/4" to 3/8" negative float space around the perimeter. This creates a striking three-dimensional appearance where the art appears weightless, glowing under directional light.

  • Finishes: Hand-rubbed Matte Black, Smoked Charcoal, Natural Maple, Distressed Raw Steel, and Warm Italian Walnut.
  • Profile Depth: 1.75" to 2.5" deep gallery relief.
  • Hardware: Heavy-duty French cleat mounting system pre-installed for flush, rock-solid wall hanging.

2. Traditional Grand Framing with Hand-Wrapped Linen Liners

Best paired with: Lumachrome® Acrylic, ChromaLuxe® Metal, and Museum Rag Paper

The definitive choice for traditional estates, executive suites, and classic Western art collections. The fine art print is bordered by a bespoke 2" to 3" hand-wrapped Belgian linen liner (available in Oatmeal, Natural Sand, or Crisp White) with an optional wooden fillet, housed inside a substantial 3" to 5" wide Roma® moulding.

  • Finishes: Hand-carved Distressed Barnwood, Antique Gold Leaf, Espresso Walnut, and Burnished Bronze.
  • Visual Presence: Adds 8" to 12" of overall architectural width and height to the piece, creating an imposing centerpiece.
  • Protection: Acrylic glazing or direct-mounted sealed face.

3. Conservator Matting & Museum Glass Presentation

Best paired with: Hahnemühle® 100% Cotton Museum Rag Prints

Designed specifically for traditional fine art purists and black and white collectors. Prints are mounted using archival, acid-free hinges and framed with an archival 8-ply museum cotton rag mat (double the thickness of standard matboard) to create a dramatic, beveled shadow line around the image.

  • Glazing: Tru Vue® Museum Glass® or Optium Museum Acrylic® (99% UV protection, less than 1% reflection).
  • Profiles: Clean gallery box frames in Matte Black, Bleached Ash, or Natural Hard Maple.
  • Authenticity: Hand-signed and numbered in graphite on the archival print margin.

4. Frameless Contemporary Float Mount (Minimalist)

Best paired with: Lumachrome® HD TruLife® Acrylic & ChromaLuxe® Metal

A sleek, ultra-clean presentation where nothing distracts from the photographic artwork itself. The print is backed with an aircraft-grade aluminum sub-frame recessed 2 inches from the edge, causing the image to float 3/4" off the wall in clean architectural suspension.

  • Aesthetic: Ultra-modern, borderless, and minimalist.
  • Installation: Integrated aluminum cleat system for invisible, secure hanging.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Framing

Do Lumachrome® Acrylic and ChromaLuxe® Metal prints need to be framed?

No, they arrive ready to hang with a recessed floating aluminum sub-frame. However, adding a custom Roma® Italian float frame or tabernaculo shadowbox adds visual weight, architectural substance, and a bespoke finished look that many collectors and interior designers prefer for prominent great rooms and fireplaces.

Can I order prints unframed for local custom framing?

Yes. All Hahnemühle 100% cotton museum rag prints are available loose/unframed, shipped rolled in heavy-duty crushproof art tubes. This allows you or your interior designer to work directly with your preferred local custom framer to match existing millwork or specific moulding profiles.

How much overall size does framing add to a print?

A recessed float frame adds approximately 1.5 to 2.5 inches to the total width and height of the piece. A traditional frame featuring a 2-inch linen liner and a 3-inch Roma wood moulding will add 8 to 10 inches to the total dimensions. Our studio provides exact outer-dimension schematics prior to production.

How are framed master prints shipped safely?

All framed masterworks are packed in custom-built, heavy-duty timber art crates engineered to prevent shifting or flexing during transit. Shipments are fully insured and handled by specialized fine art freight carriers and white-glove couriers directly to your residence or installation site.
