About the Artist

Jess Lee is a fine art landscape and wildlife photographer with 50 years of professional experience across the American West, Alaska, Africa, Brazil, India, and beyond. A National Geographic contributing photographer and cover photographer, his images have appeared on the covers of National Geographic and National Wildlife and in Smithsonian, Sierra, Cowboys & Indians, Paris Match, GEO, and Time-Life Books, and were featured in Ken Burns' Emmy Award-winning PBS series America's National Parks. His work has been exhibited at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles, shown in his own fine art gallery, and carried by galleries across the West. An NPS and BLM Authorized Permittee, he has operated commercially under permit in many of America's national parks and sensitive Bureau of Land Management areas. Based in Washington State with a seasonal studio in Island Park, Idaho, he sells limited-edition, museum-quality fine art prints directly to collectors, luxury homeowners, interior designers, and institutional buyers worldwide through jessleephotos.com. "Through the window of his lens, Jess Lee brings you into the soul of endangered species and unique perspectives of special places. Capturing the beauty of the natural world to immortalize rare moments and creatures."

About Jess Lee Photos: The Art of the Extraordinary

There is a moment, sometimes after days of waiting, when the light finally arrives and an animal turns, or a storm breaks over a ridge, and everything you came for is suddenly in front of you. Fifty years in, that moment has not gotten old. Every photograph on this site came from one of them.

The work is made in the field, on Jess's own capture — wildlife photographed wild, in country where the animals are living their own lives and the photographer is a guest. Landscapes photographed on the mornings that earned them. There is no substitute for being there, and no shortcut to knowing where to stand.

Landscape work and considered wildlife portraits are captured on 100-megapixel medium format systems, holding fine detail and tonal depth at any scale the wall calls for. Fast-moving wildlife is captured on high-speed 35mm-format systems, chosen for the moment rather than the spec sheet. Prints are produced in Lumachrome HD TruLife Acrylic, Chromaluxe Metal, or Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper, each signed, numbered, shipped fully insured in custom crating, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Anything damaged in transit is replaced immediately at no cost.

Thousands of these prints now hang in homes, offices, lodges, and hospitals around the world, and the collectors who own them tend to come back for another. When you buy here you are buying directly from the artist. If you want help choosing a size or a format, or you'd like to see a piece on your own wall before deciding, Jess will build you a room preview himself. No charge, no obligation — it's the part of this he enjoys.
