For over five decades, I've been privileged to witness Alaska's raw magnificence through my lens. From the towering peaks of Denali to the pristine wilderness of Katmai, my journey as a landscape photographer has been inseparably woven with Alaska's untamed spirit. What began as a young photographer's fascination with the Last Frontier has evolved into a lifelong commitment to capturing and preserving the essence of America's greatest wilderness.

The Call of the Wild: My First Alaska Adventure

My relationship with Alaska began in the early 1970s, when the state still felt like the edge of the world. Armed with basic camera equipment and an insatiable curiosity about nature's wonders, I made my first journey north. Nothing could have prepared me for the sheer scale and beauty that awaited me. The vastness of the landscape, the quality of light, and the sense of being truly alone in pristine wilderness ignited a passion that has driven my work for five decades.

That first trip to Denali National Park changed everything. It started as a flyin float trip hat is a story of leaking rafts, missing sleeping bags, standing along ona masive rock in the middle of a spring swollen river watching our unmaned baost drift down stream. Truely a trip of deliverance.

At the end of that trip while standing before North America's highest peak, watching the alpenglow paint those snow-covered slopes in ethereal hues, I knew I had found my calling. The mountain demanded respect, patience, and dedication—qualities that would define my approach to Alaska photography for the rest of my career.

Denali: The Crown Jewel of My Collection

Over the decades, I've returned to Denali countless times, each visit revealing new facets of this magnificent landscape. The park has provided some of my most sought-after images, including my famous "Denali Reflection" piece, which has been the number one choice of collectors at galleries and art shows for the past decade.

Denali teaches you patience. I've waited days for the mountain to emerge from clouds, spending hours at Wonder Lake waiting for that perfect moment when the wind stills and the water becomes a mirror. Leading photography workshops to Katmai, I've guided photographers to witness and capture the raw power and grace of these incredible animals.

From our private lodge on the shores of Lake Iliamna, nestled between Katmai, McNeil River, and Lake Clark, we venture out daily to photograph bears at the peak of salmon fishing season. The intensity of watching a massive brown bear plunge into rushing water, emerging with a salmon clenched in its jaws, never diminishes. These moments require split-second timing and an understanding of bear behavior developed over decades of observation.

My limited edition prints of Katmai's grizzlies fishing for salmon capture what I consider some of the most dramatic wildlife action available anywhere in the world. The image of a mother grizzly nursing her cubs remains one of my most treasured captures—a tender moment in the midst of Alaska's wildest landscape.

Lake Clark: Hidden Jewel of the Alaska Range

Lake Clark National Park, once one of Alaska's best-kept secrets, has provided some of my most intimate landscape photography. This park offers a rare combination of coastal and interior Alaska landscapes, where glacial lakes reflect towering peaks and massive glaciers carve their way through ancient valleys.

The diversity within Lake Clark is staggering. In a single day, I can photograph coastal scenes reminiscent of southeastern Alaska, then turn inland to capture alpine meadows and glacial moraines that rival anything in Denali. The park's relative obscurity means I often have these incredible vistas entirely to myself—a photographer's dream in our increasingly crowded world.

Long shadows stretch across endless tundra, while peaks are bathed in warm light at hours when most of the world sleeps.
