Subterranean Light: Sandstone Sculpture, Beams, and Reflected Radiance
Nothing inside a slot canyon is lit directly. Direct sun rarely strikes the subterranean floor; instead, overhead light reflects off curving Navajo sandstone walls, bouncing through narrow chambers until the stone appears to glow from within. As light filters downward, canyon walls shift continuously through a spectrum of fiery vermilion, deep terracotta, golden amber, and cool violet.
Spanning work initiated in 1999—captured on large and medium format film transparencies and high-resolution digital systems—this is a closed, finite body of work documenting iconic locations before strict commercial tour restrictions. Rendered as luminous Lumachrome® HD Acrylic Face-Mounts, ChromaLuxe® Metal, and custom architectural murals up to multi-story installations, these prints bring the organic fluidity of water-carved stone into fine homes and statement corporate environments.
