Wild Horses and Cowboy country of the West

Desert ElkWild MustangBadger

This is the trip to allows you the chance to capture images of the real west. We are offer an exceptional opportunity to photograph and view wild horses and other wildlife in their natural free roaming environment in two states. Well over 250 square miles of high desert with complete solitude and virtually no pressure. Most of all, this trips are about getting away from the cycle of work and never enough free time. Replenishing the spirits and finding your balance again. Leave your stressful life behind and explore a foreign place very far from the tourist rush and off the beaten path.

Every wild horse tour has a special meaning for each person. The unpredictability of nature has led us to devise many ways of making our ventures into the high desert a time to remember.
Just sit back and enjoy the whole wilderness experience and let us and our outfitter pamper you, while enjoying the slow western pace

Our outfitter looks forward to providing you, a photo tour where echoes of the past whisper in the sagebrush and cedar trees. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid rustled cattle through the badlands here. Tom Horn, the enforcer for the powerful cattle barons, followed them over the Outlaw Trail around Baggs, Wy. and Juniper Hot Springs, CO. You will be working in some of the same rugged mountain country on these tours. The landscape is different each day and spectacular in it's natural splendid beauty. You can count on our professional attitude, intimate knowledge of the area and all the species of wildlife you may encounter through the tour.

There are over 1400 head of wild mustangs in these areas. These are the true thing. Free roaming B.L.M., federally protected WILD HORSES. Not some dude ranches tamed brood mares used just for breeding on the dude ranch. Where they try and pre-stage everything for you. These wild horses are the real thing

Our outfitter has just leased brand new cabins a few miles from the wild horse herds. These cabins are on a real working ranch and will be the location for sleeping and all meals while on the 4x4 photography tour. Remember this is the real west as it is today.

CabibBathrooms and showers

There is not a planned time table or pattern that we follow once we are in the high desert. We just go where the wild horses are. Occasionally, we have to walk a short distance for a better view and pictures (water holes, etc.). Normally, we can get the 4x4 vehicle closer than walking. Remember, your pleasure and safety are our main concern.

Other animals that may be seen on our tours, other than lots of wild horses, are antelope, deer, elk, fox, coyote, bobcat, mountain lion, badger, grouse, snakes, falcons, hawks, bald eagles, and large golden eagles.

The rock formations, the color of the rocks, the grand mountain vistas, offer exciting views. High desert mountain areas where out tours occur, varies from very interesting to extraordinary. The Rocky Mountains' reputation for magnificence has earned it the hard way, gawk by gawk. Big deep blue western skies and broad western rim buttes that stretch for miles and miles.

Tour:

All Wild Horse and landscape photo tours go from before sun up to after sun down. Taking a very long break for lunch, which we provide (sandwiches, granola bars, chips, cookies) and snacks. All food, including vegetarian options upon request (in advance).
We head out for the wild horse and landscape photo tour about 2 hours before sun up. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive the 90 miles to get to the wild horses. Rest and relax by not having to drive. Get to know your fellow participants and your workshop leader enroute. Use part of the 1.5 hour drive to understand your photo expectations and share some of everyone's techniques so you can hit the ground running during the first photo shoot.
We start back to town after sun down, using all the light we can. The wild horse photo tour can be over a vast and remote area of over 250 square miles. There will be no more than 4 passengers in a 4x4 vehicle. The bathroom is always behind a bush or over the hill.
