Elk Antler Auction, Bison Skulls and Visitors.

This weekend marks the beginning of the true tourist season in the Northern Rockies and one of the last semi local events is the Annual Jackson Hole Elk Antler auction. and Elkfest. Some how these Bison skulls reminded me of the upcoming season. Maybe it has something to do with all of the Bison burgers [...]

Faster horses

It was a quick trip down to Colorado to photograph a horse drive then up to Cheyenne to visit my mom, sister and her husband for Mothers Day. The plan was to spend time in Wyoming working on more wild horses but a big spring snow storm came in and changed all of that. For [...]

Sand and stone at Sunrise

This is from this morning on a quick scouting trip for the up coming workshop. It is a neat location with a great deal of possibilities.
Sometimes driving through Northern Arizona you would think it is just a wasteland but once you get past the somewhat starkness you look instide to see the true beauty of [...]

Marble Canyon Condor

I usually don’t put two photos in a post but they seem to go together. The California Condors just love Marble Canyon. This  Condor was watching over its fledgling roosted on the iron work of the Marble Canyon Bridge.

Midway Geyser Basin sunrise

Midway is one of my Favorite Locations. It doesn’t have the variety of other basins but the Firehole river and the orange/yellow outflow of the basin seem like a magic combination. On this morning we we lucky enough to be on the bridge just as the sun came over the terrace.

Cold!

When running low on wildlife photo opportunities Yellowstone always provides plenty of others. We were shooting ice and frost patterns along the Lamar River last week with the usual +1 .5 compensation to get the exposure right with snow and bright lighting conditions,  when I decided I wanted to emphasise the cold by using super blue.
In [...]
