Katmai Coastal Brown Bears by Boat

Stunning photos of Grizzlies fishing for Salmon in unspoiled wild beauty will be made possible by the use of our Private charter boat to access the remote streams and harbors of the rugged Katmai Coast

August 14-21st

2010

Join Jess with a small group of adventurous photographers for one of the most stunning Alaska Brown Bear Photo trips available. We will fly in our private float plane from Kodiak to the rugged and beautiful Katmai Coast where we will board our private charted boat for 6 days and 5 nights of pure Alaska wilderness Brown Bear photography heaven.

Separated from the rest of the park by the Aleutian Range, Katmai’s eastern coast is a spectacular wilderness area ranging from narrow fjords guarded by bald eagles to broad coastal flats monopolized by the world densest population of the majestic Brown Bear.
This is the land of the brown bear, not a place where humans rule. We travel in the sanctuary of these majestic animals using bear trails worn in earth and stone by centuries of bear use. We do this in harmony with the bears, safely photographing them in their truly wild state, unmolested by lodges, platforms or human disruption. We will live aboard our private chartered boat anchored off shore in some of the many calm bays of the Katmai coast. Most other groups fly into one location where their boat is anchored for the duration of the trip. This is the same bay where day trips often arrive and leave disturbing the seculsion and serenity of the experience. Our group will travel to locations seldom visited by others. Places of true wilderness where we can experience the bears in solitude. During this adventure you will capture images rarely seen. Our guides and ships crew will insure this is done in safety and comfort.
Our timing will be just right for the beginning of the Salmon runs when these huge bears fight for dominance over the best fishing places, where mother bears with cubs establish the best fishing locations and often station the cubs near us for their protection from male bears. The action will be close and thrilling giving us the best vantage to photograph this annual event.
Since flights to and from the Katmai coast are dictated by the weather it is suggest members use the following travel itinerary.
Arrive in Anchorage no later than the 14th.
Transfer to Kodiak on the 15th.
On the 16th we will depart by float plane for the Katmai Coast to our awaiting boat.
With the unpredictable weather buffer days are advisable. If you choose to arrive in Kodiak a day early we can share a rental vehicle and explore the coast of Kodiak, know as the emerald isle. Who knows if the weather is closing in we may depart a day early for an extra day on the Coast.
The cost for this exclusive adventure is $6995 from departure from Kodiak by scenic flight seeing float plane to our private Charter.
Not included are all expenses before our departure from Kodiak
A $1500 non refundable deposit is required for this trip. You can send your deposit by check or pay pal. Since this deposit is going directly to the charter company I request pay pal payment include the 3% paypal cost.
Space is already filling so Email Jess@JessLeePhotos.com or call 208-521-5170 to reserve you place on this great trip to the wild Katmai Coast.
