Mange comes to the Yellowstone dogs.

by Jess on February 10, 2009

Over the past few days we have seen and heard of a large out break of mange in the Yellowstone wolves and coyotes.  Mange is caused by a  very contagious parasite and in extreme cases it can cause death by reducing the animals ability to cope with the elements and other stress.

So how do we know this Coyote has mange? Note the ring around the tail. The hair loss is caused by the mange infestation.

It will be interesting to see how this progresses.

How did the wolfs get the mange? Does it come naturally or is it brought by people. This is sad, how is Yellowstone going to prevent this from getting other animals.
