Desert Spring dreaming

Mexican Poppies

While the snow continues to drift here in Yellowstone country. The flowers are starting their bloom in the desert of the southwest.

Soon the Mexican (or is it now Latino) Poppies and other flowers will carpet the lowlands in southern California and Arizona. “It is going to be a good year” says the visitors center at the park I contacted today. Our trip in mid March will be prime time.

While I am looking forward to the Winter in Yellowstone trips that will be starting in a couple of days and I will miss my morning workout of cleaning snow drifts from our 300 foot driveway, I am already Desert dreaming.

My tips for shooting the desert flowers are; Use a tripod that will take you down to ground level. remember the rule of thirds for your composition and watch for snakes around those colorful rock piles.

Remember, it is about the light!

Good Luck.
